The Earth Science Teachers’ Association

It is impossible for students to develop a satisfactory understanding of geology without significant exposure to field-based teaching

and study, and the related assessment. The integration of fieldwork with other teaching methods is core to students achieving skills such as the ability to visualise and extrapolate data in three-dimensions, or understanding the application of practical methodologies. Furthermore, many students are drawn to geology because of the opportunities to do fieldwork, which is FUN!
